What is the key to going fast in breaststroke?

I think if I can get better better at breaststroke, I can become an IMer. Also, how do I get more stamina, or endurance.|||When you swim breaststroke, to get more power, make sure you drive your head forward (still keep it down) then you can lunge forward. To get more stamina, finish your kick all the way, so your legs touch when you finish your kick. Dont let the float together after you finish your kick, snap them together.

After you finish your stroke to go into the 'almost streamline' position, make sure you go into that position very fast. People have different strokes. I like to glide moderatly long, sorta like Brendan Hansen's stroke. My freind has a very fast, up and down breaststroke stroke.

Hope this helps :)|||stamina and endurance - build those through running, short sprints on faster intervals, and intense kicking sets.

KEY ASPECTS OF BREASTSTROKE:

1- flexible ankles - this will allow you to catch the water much better and your kick will be much stronger.

2- high elbows - NEVER drop the elbows when you're pulling in towards your chest because this causes more resistance when you try to bring the arms back up. so keep your arm at that 90 degree angle until you're ready to recover back to the front.

3- strong thighs - this gives your kick most of the power. work on these with squats, streamline squats, and squats with med balls. lunges also work and basically any routine and exercise that works the thighs.

4- strong shoulder/chest area - this provides support for your stroke as you prepare it for the lunge forward. gives you a stronger pull as well. this can be developed through benching. MAKE SURE to have high repetitions with lighter weights rather than power reps with heavier ones.

as you pull, imagine yourself going through a ring in the pool, you wanna pull yor body through that ring and follow through with the kick to get the rest of yourself through.

good luck and happy training!|||Stamina and endurance come with sustained daily workouts. I would say that three of the biggest keys to breastroke are :

1- having a good kick. Sometimes breastrokers just have it.

2 - getting your body in a streamlined position quickly so that when your kick is ready to push, your body is in position to travel.

3 - always throw your shoulders to full extension.

Here is a great site for tips. The girl in the video on this page does a great job of getting hre body in position quickly so that it is ready for the kick.

http://www.goswim.tv/entries/4983/breast鈥?/a>|||you need to practise, i would suggest doing drills for breastroke, like kick and pull, i am a breastroker and need help with butterfly. but i suggest that if you are tall use your height to your advantage, use a long kick and a clean pull, gliding under the water |||strong legs and your pull....im starting to feel faster when i kick harder and pull foreward faster|||u have to match your kick and stroke at the same time, and determination
