Is it better to do long, full, strokes of breaststroke, or short, fast strokes of breast stroke?

I am trying out for the swim team today and I need to swim a 100 breaststroke. I need to go really fast, so is doing long, full strokes, or short, fast strokes a better way to get a faster time?|||its better to do long, complete strokes than to do short choppy ones. But, do your long complete strokes as fast as you can with a powerful kick and you'll be all set :)|||It's better to do long full strokes. A great deal of power comes from the insweep in breaststroke (that's when you bring your hands in under your face at the end of the stroke), and you can carry momentum forward by shooting your hands fast back up to a streamline at the end of the stroke. However, if you don't glide there for a second or so, you will kill the momentum you gained from the hands shooting, and you will be wasting energy. Plan on gliding for about a second after each stroke. Also, make sure you sweep your hands out wide on each stroke so you can maximize the benefit of the insweep. If you don't sweep out wide, the insweep is short and ineffective, and that's where most of the power comes from. In summary, long full strokes are better because they maximize efficiency and power.

Hope this helps.|||What you want to be doing is really reach out. when your practicing just really focus on your stroke (nice and long) and when your kicking make sure you kick all the way until your feet touch eachother. Dont give up on your kick. dont move your head much and really try to stay long as possible. now when your racing you do want to tighten up just little bit and maybe iven speed your stroke up a little but never speed up or tighten up too much that it messes up your stroke. And your turns are very crucial make sure you spend extra time on that underwater pull down off the wall.

P.S. watch Kosuke Kitajima or Brendan Hansen it will help.|||long ones. you'll be faster and the short ones tire you out more.
