Why is the breaststroke called that?

I just thought it was a bit of an odd choice of words to name a swimming technique after a favourite pasttime of lesbians.





Seriously though, I'm interested: why is it called that?|||Well a stroke isn't always a physical stroke of something it can also be used to describe movement- the stroke of a clock for example :) and 'breast' stroke is as, unlike other swimming techniques, the stroke of the arms is an outwards movement from the chest or 'breast'
